This 3D medical animation demonstrates protein synthesis. The animation opens with a view of several chromosomes. The camera zooms into one chromosome. Once inside the chromosome, a section of DNA begins to 'unzip' producing a strand of mRNA. The stand of mRNA then moves from the nucleus out to the cell's cytoplasm, where it is met by a ribosome. The ribosome attaches to the strand of mRNA and begins to read it. A chain of amino acids begins to form from the ribosome. This chain of amino acids detaches from the ribosome, begins to fold into a complex ball, and becomes a protein.
