Progression of Condition - Medical Illustration, Human Anatomy Drawing
This stock medical exhibit describes a patient who, after undergoing laparoscopic surgery to treat endometriosis, suffered from a perforated colon. The top images describe the pre-operative condition, with small endometrial lesions on the bladder and left uterosacral ligament. Next, an intra-operative view shows the uterosacral ligament being grasped, tented upwards sharply, and excised - with a portion of the colon inadvertently excised at the same time. The next illustrations depict the immediate post-operative condition with minimal leakage of bowel contents, and the subsequent condition, in which the area is contaminated by stool which has leaked from the perforated bowel.
