Spinal Hematoma Following Spinal Tap - Medical Illustration, Human Anatomy Drawing
This medical exhibit uses five separate images to demonstrate a spinal hematoma forming following a spinal tap procedure. The first image orients the viewer showing the thoracic spine in sagittal section. The second image demonstrates how a needle is inserted into the subdural space to collect cerebrospinal fluid (CSF). The third image demonstrates from a superior view the relationship of the spinal cord and blood vessels to the dura and the CSF contained within. The final two images show a subsequent hematoma developing causing spinal cord edema and compression.
